Skopje hosts weekend honey fair
Skopje, 4 November 2022 (MIA) - More than 20 exhibitors from all corners of the country will sell honey and honey bee products on stands installed in Macedonia square in Skopje as part of the fourth Beekeeping Fair of Macedonia, organized over the weekend by the Beekeeping Federation of Macedonia under the auspices of the Agriculture Ministry. Hosted by the City of Skopje, visitors at the three-day event will have the chance to taste honey and honey bee products. Equipment for beekeepers will be also displayed at a few stands. Beekeeping in Macedonia is in an upward trend, said Jane Markov, president of the Beekeeping Federation of Macedonia opening the fair. "We have beekeepers from all walks of life, of all ages and gender. It's becoming a family business with many young people opening businesses as beekeepers," he said. Apiaries in the country, Markov said, are located some hundreds of kilometers away in a clean environment. "Beekeepers are also hit by the energy crisis. The regulation for beekeeping subsidies is also planned to be changed and it needs to be seriously considered because there is a risk that many beekeepers might quit beekeeping, which might also affect our environment," he stated.
