Shahpaska-Galloway: Enhanced position of Roma a joint priority
Skopje, 2 November 2021 (MIA) – Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jagoda Shahpaska met Tuesday with UK Ambassador Rachel Galloway, discussing ongoing projects of the ministry with a focus on those related to support and reintegration of Roma amid the covid-crisis.
Minister Shahpaska highlighted the successful realization of the second stage of programme ROMACTED 2021-2024, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy said in a press release.
“Strengthening of the Roma community both individually and community-wise, improvement of capacities and education, as well as living conditions and mitigation of the pandemic effects are our priorities,” said Shahpaska.
She also noted that homes of the Roma community in Prilep, Bitola, Kichevo, Berovo and Shtip have been legalized and refurbished through a EUR 3,2 million grant within an EU-funded project.
Ambassador Galloway reaffirmed the British Embassy support to the Ministry’s policies and its readiness to support the projects’ implementation.
“The law on persons not recorded in the birth registry is an example of the Government’s readiness to help people who cannot realize their human rights due to lack of identity documents,” said Shahpaska.
The Ministry and the Embassy resume their cooperation to support vulnerable groups and create one society for all, reads the press release.
