Shahpaska says Sunday to be rest day as of January 1, expects lawmakers to pass bill
Skopje, 10 December 2021 (MIA) – The legal solution according to which Sunday is to be a rest day will take effect as of January 1, 2022, decided MPs at Friday’s session of the Parliamentary Committee on Labor and Social Policy.
Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jagoda Shahpaska pointed out that the bill is part of the government’s policy to protect workers’ rights. She expects MPs to back this legal solution at a plenary session as well, because, she noted, it is in the interest of 92 percent of workers in North Macedonia.
“This solution helps us protect the rights of those 8 percent of workers that have to work on Sundays due to the importance of the work or the technological process, but there will be an increase in the daily wage of minimum 50 percent and a day off within the next seven days. For employees in trade, where there are exceptions, the Sunday wage bonus is 100 percent,” according to Minister Shahpaska. dk/nn/
