Roman Road at Bitola’s Heraclea archeological site promoted
Bitola, 24 July 2021 (MIA) – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev was accompanied by EU Ambassador David Geer, Culture Minister Irena Stefoska and Bitola Mayor Natasha Petrovska to promote the reconstructed Roman Road at Heraclea Lyncestis in Bitola. Thanks to the EU-funded cross-border project for reconstruction, numerous local and foreign tourists will have an easy access to the monumental archeological site of Heraclea Lyncestis, said PM Zaev. The Municipality of Bitola, the main partner in the project, reconstructed the old Roman Road to the site, while Albania reconstructed an old school building in a village in Pustec. According to Zaev, the project plays an important role in cross-border cooperation in the region and in the long-term aims to increase the tourist offer in the region. “Cross-border cooperation is resuming. Five more tourist packages have been established for the region in Pelagonija and Korcha and they are being prepared to be promoted,” he told reporters in Bitola. Heraclea Lyncestis is considered also part of the European cultural heritage, said the EU Ambassador Geer adding he hopes that more people will visit the site. More than EUR 704,000 was invested in the SmartCulture project, revealed Mayor Petrovska. “With the project, we’re opening perspectives to develop the region with an accent on tourism,” she said.
