Real chance for GDP growth between 3.5-4 percent: PM

Skopje, 12 May 2025 (MIA) - Based on the preliminary indicators, there is a real chance for economic growth between 3.5-4 percent in the first quarter, one of the highest in Europe, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Monday.

PM Mickoski told a panel at the Macedonia2025 Summit in Skopje that if developments in the European economy improve, especially in the automotive industry, then growth could be even higher, around 5-6 percent.

The PM said Macedonia is a crossroad of Corridors VIII, X and XI, which is important for NATO's south wing, and therefore "our efforts should focus on intensive infrastructure development."

"We have potential and are ahead of others when it comes to performance. The first year of the Government's term was difficult and full of challenges, since we had to stop the free fall of the country. It was unrealistic to start with the reforms while still resolving fundamental problems," noted Mickoski.

Accelerating economic growth, digital policies and innovations for a future-ready economy, aligning the country’s economic potential with smart investments, application of artificial intelligence, reinstating investments and the role of the diaspora in national growth are in the focus of the Macedonia2025 Summit.
