Bozhinovska and Landau sign memorandum on strengthening energy security

Skopje, 8 April 2026 (MIA) – A Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing the security of natural gas supply was signed by Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau during the official visit of the Macedonian government delegation to the United States.

“The Memorandum reaffirms the joint commitment to diversifying natural gas supply sources and routes, increasing the resilience of the energy system, ensuring stable, reliable and affordable gas for the country, and strengthening regional connectivity and market integration,” the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release.

They stressed that the shared position is that there is clear potential to intensify cooperation, with a focus on projects that will deliver concrete results and contribute to the economic development and energy security of both countries.

The signing took place in Washington as part of the Strategic Dialogue with the United States, which, according to the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, is a key platform for deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries. The dialogue covers the most important areas for development - energy, economy, security and technology.

“The document sets out concrete steps for infrastructure development and improving transparency in gas markets, opening opportunities to use public and private financial instruments, including support from international financial institutions and export credit agencies. The focus of the talks is clear – energy security, economic cooperation and concrete projects that bring stability, investment and development. With this agreement, Macedonia strengthens its position in regional energy flows, with a clear orientation toward integration with European markets, directly contributing to economic stability and long-term development,” reads the press release.

As part of the Strategic Dialogue, Minister Bozhinovska participated in several thematic sessions and held bilateral meetings with senior representatives of the U.S. administration.

Earlier, Bozhinovska held a meeting at the White House with Jarrod Agen, Deputy Assistant to President Donald Trump and Executive Director of the U.S. National Energy Dominance Council. The meeting included an exchange of views on advancing bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, while Agen’s experience and knowledge of global energy flows were noted as an important basis for developing future partnerships and projects.

“Minister Bozhinovska underscored readiness to deepen cooperation and implement concrete initiatives, noting that partnership with the United States is a significant factor for the long-term stability and development of the energy sector. This step represents a strong confirmation of the strategic partnership with the United States and a clear signal that the country is positioning itself as a credible and active player in the regional energy architecture,” reads the press release.
