Public Advocate urges society to uphold human rights

Skopje, 10 December 2023 (MIA) — The provisions of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are not merely words on paper but guideposts for societies, Public Advocate Naser Ziberi wrote in a public letter marking Dec. 10, World Human Rights Day.
"In the year we are commemorating the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a document inevitable after World War II, the greatest trauma experienced by the world, I would like to urge all stakeholders in society [...] to make every effort to apply every word written in it to your daily life," Ziberi wrote.
The state, he adds, exists for the citizens and not the other way around.
"So listen to all citizens who turn to you, regardless of their nationality, their skin color, their language," he continues, adding that people should be allowed to exercise their constitutional rights.
The Public Advocate notes that wars continue even now, forcing millions of people to leave their homes and live in inhumane conditions.
"Children are the ones who suffer the most," Ziberi says, adding that the world should urgently resolve these conflicts. mr/
