Prosecutors launch probe against Skopje person suspected of setting Ohrid farmer's market on fire

Ohrid, 17 March 2024 (MIA) — The Ohrid Primary Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against a 19-year-old man from Skopje suspected of causing the fire in which a restaurant in Ohrid's farmers market was burned to the ground.

 

According to prosecutors in a press release, on March 10, in the early morning hours, the suspect and an unknown accomplice threw an incendiary device at the restaurant, which is located on Ohrid's Tourist Blvd.

 

In addition to the restaurant completely burining down, the fire damaged the surroundings and also put people in danger, the release adds.

 

The suspect is being charged with serious crimes against public safety under Article 292 Paragraph 1 in connection with Article 288 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

 

Prosecutors have requested the Ohrid Primary Court issue a detention order against the suspect to eliminate the risk of his fleeing or influencing witnesses.
