PHI: Number of new COVID-19 cases, recoveries and fatalities drops
Skopje, 31 August 2022 (MIA) – According to the Public Health Institute’s weekly report for the period from Aug. 22 to Aug. 28, 2022, the number of new COVID-19 cases has dropped by 34.3% compared to the previous week.  In the past week, a total of 5,815 tests were carried out, 15.3% less than the previous week, and 1,763 people tested positive for COVID-19 in 34 cities and towns across the country.   The percent positivity is between 17.8% and 33.6%, i.e. average 27.9%, reads the Public Health Institute’s report.   The majority of the new COVID-19 cases were registered in Skopje. Cases were registered in all age groups, with the majority (43%) aged over 60. The least number of new cases were registered in those aged 10-19 (2.8%).   A drop in the number of new cases compared to the previous week is registered in all cases. The most significant drop is registered in the age group 10-19 (43%).   A total of 2,437 recovered patients were registered last week, 30.4% less than the previous week. In addition, the Public Health Institute registered 407 cases of COVID-19 reinfection, 37.1% less than the previous week.   Twelve fatalities were registered, 40% less than the previous week. Eleven were in the age group over 60, and one fatality in the age group 50-59.   Since the onset of the epidemic, and until Aug. 28, 2022, North Macedonia has registered 339,881 COVID-19 cases. In the past week, 28 people were admitted for hospital treatment. A total of 120 patients (five less compared to the previous week) are currently in hospital, of which 47 receive oxygen support.
