Pendarovski says he expects turnaround in presidential runoff

Skopje, 2 May 2024 (MIA) - Presidential candidate Stevo Pendarovski said in an interview with Alsat TV on Thursday that a turnaround was possible in the second round of the May 8 elections, because he was convinced that the majority of the citizens will support the concept that he advocated in the past five years as President, i.e. the concept of togetherness, respect for people who unite, realization of strategic interests for the state, better life, democracy and respect for human freedoms and rights.

"I will address all voters, all ethnic communities. The voters of the Albanian political parties and the voters of ZNAM and all the others. But I will address them as citizens. No negotiations under the table. I publicly, transparently tell everyone – this is my concept, I stand for this and my concept is drastically different from the concept offered by Gordana Siljanovska Davkova. I believe that will mean a lot both to many Macedonians and to many Albanians. But I repeat - I have addressed until now and I will address from now on the citizens, regardless of who they voted for in the first round and regardless of which ethnic community they belong to," said Pendarovski.

In the interview, he also commented on calls from VMRO-DPMNE for a boycott of the second round of the presidential elections, noting that a boycott does not solve the problem and does not lead to a victory, on the contrary, a boycott leads to defeat.

Pendarovski also spoke, among other, about nationalism, regarding which he said it is dangerous to use in everyday rhetoric, because citizens are not aware that politicians are only mentioning it to gain political points.
