Skopje, 9 March 2023 (MIA) — Minister of Economy Kreshnik Bekteshi announced Thursday a pasta- and dairy-price freeze as of March 10.

He said he expected the price of noodles to immediately drop by at least 10 percent. 

Milk and cheese should also be cheaper, he said, but dairy producers were given a little time to drop the prices of their products on their own. 

“We will wait until tomorrow for producers to prepare [for the price freeze] because some have already been cutting prices themselves,” Minister Bekteshi said.

Answering reporters’ questions, he also said he and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski should give a press conference Friday regarding the price reductions.

“Most likely there will be a decision on pasta and dairy products tomorrow morning,” the economy minister said, reassuring citizens that not only pasta and dairy prices would drop but also “any other products that our analyses show are sold at higher profits margins than usual.”

Bekteshi added that he was in constant communication with dairy producers as well as with pasta producers.

Previously, the government froze the price of white bread and half-white-half-wheat bread at 33 denars per loaf. mr/
