Parliament to resume session on election of new ministers on Monday

Parliament to resume session on election of new ministers on Monday

Skopje, 24 February 2023 (MIA) – The Parliament will resume the debate on the election of new ministers on Monday.

Speaker Talat Xhaferi adjourned Friday's debate, which continued in the later afternoon, noting that due to the upcoming religious holidays, the session will resume on Monday.

During the debate, Levica MP Borislav Krmov commented on Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski's address, noting among other things that he didn't understand the justification for the shuffle of Alternativa with the Alliance for Albanians (AA) in the ruling coalition.

According to him, the alleged rationale that the goal is a European coalition, etc., doesn't add up, as this was a case of a classic and complete hostage-taking of SDSM by DUI.

He added that "SDSM is de facto already a minority partner, the number of MPs is not relevant and most of the ministries are not in their hands."

"Over 90 percent of the key institutions are held by DUI. SDSM is only left with the crumbs. Obviously, the only motivation is to continue the businesses," said Krmov.

DUI on the other hand, Krmov continued, has two problems now - the first is to prevent unification of the Albanian opposition, and the second is the faction of the party.

DUI MP Arta Biljali Zendeli responded to the arguments put forward by Krmov regarding problems within the party.

"DUI may have not two, but a thousand problems, and as long as you're dealing with the DUI, the party's rating will only go up. Finally, there will be elections, where we will all get what we deserve," said Biljali Zendeli.

Under the Government reshuffle, Krenar Loga is proposed for Minister of Justice, Fatmir Mexhiti for Minister of Health, Azir Aliu for Minister of Information Society and Administration, all coming from new coalition partner Alliance for Albanians, and SDSM's Kaja Shukova for Minister of Environment and Physical Planning.

The Parliament session also includes the dismissal of deputy ministers of defense, agriculture and education, followed by the election of their successors.
