Parliament concludes discussion on amendments to Law on Local Self-Government

Skopje, 12 September 2024 (MIA) - Members of Parliament concluded Thursday the discussion on the amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government in a fast-track procedure. The amendments require a two-third majority, and the vote will be held at a later time.

Opposition MPs said the bill limits the constitutionally guaranteed right of citizens to be able to elect the mayor of their municipalities if their mayors have moved on to other posts. They were also critical of the fact the amendments were submitted in a fast-track procedure.

At the session MPs discussed other legislation as well, including a fast-tracked bill for the termination of the validity of the Law on the Establishment of a State Commission for Decision-making in the Second Instance in the Field of Inspection Supervision and Misdemeanor Procedure, amendments to the Law on Audio and Audiovisual Media Services in a fast-track procedure, amendments to the Law on Free Legal Aid in a fast-track procedure, and amendments to the Law on Use of Public Sector Data.
