Osmani: Malta to take over OSCE Chairpersonship in 2024

Skopje, 27 November 2023 (MIA) – Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Bujar Osmani announced Monday that a consensus has been reached in Vienna for Malta to chair the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2024.

“Excellent news from Vienna! Today at the Preparatory Meeting and the Permanent Council, the ambassadors of 57 OSCE participating countries reached consensus and a decision was adopted paving the path for the future OSCE Chairpersonship. The decision will be confirmed at the 30th OSCE Ministerial Council in Skopje. Gratitude to Malta for its willingness to take on this vital role and to all participating countries and OSCE partners for their flexibility and support,” said Osmani in a post on his official Facebook profile.

The consensus on Malta comes after several failed attempts to reach a consensus over Estonia’s candidacy to chair the organization in 2024.

North Macedonia assumed the Chairpersonship of the largest regional security organization on January 1, 2023.
