Skopje, 6 April 2025 (MIA) — The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia is electing a new party president Sunday, with current SDSM leader Venko Filipche being the sole candidate on the ballot.

Polls in 78 municipal SDSM branches are open for party members to vote from 8 am to 8 pm. The party's voter list consists of 23,712 members, according to the party's internal election committee.

The results will be announced after the voting is complete, SDSM said.

The party's presidential vote was previously scheduled for March 16. It was postponed over the Kocani tragedy.

Filipche was elected leader last June in a snap election SDSM held after Dimitar Kovachevski resigned over the party's historically worst parliamentary and presidential election results. 

If elected, Filipche will serve a four-year term as SDSM president. mr/
