Skopje, 25 June 2022 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani said that under the current proposal, the Macedonian language is one of the EU’s 25 languages, and becomes part of the negotiating framework as such. In an interview with Alsat TV’s 360 Degrees show late Friday, Osmani said that was one of the greatest victories for the Macedonian people and the country. “According to the current proposal, the Macedonian language remains one of the EU’s 25 languages, without any footnotes or additional interpretations. We won’t allow it and there’s no reason for Bulgaria to dispute it because it becomes part of the negotiating framework, and the negotiating framework is the basic document that defines the process,” Osmani said. He reiterated that the protocol had no place in the negotiating framework, and once it is finalized it will be presented to the public. The Minister voiced hope that the last-minute amendments adopted by the Bulgarian Parliament in the decision to greenlight the French proposal “provide a basis for an understanding of our positions in the process.” Asked when a final French proposal was expected, Osmani noted that the French EU Presidency ends in a few days, adding that the Government was open to consider that version if it arrived. “The French Presidency ends on June 30, which means that in the coming days, if they decide on a new proposal in accordance with the views of both sides, which were also made public, we are open to review it. If we receive a proposal, institutions will be consulted and a decision will be made. We will absolutely not be guided by hybrid attacks, disappointed politicians who think they could spin their careers on the wave of public mood. We have been chosen to lead and we’ll only lead convinced we’re leading the citizens and the country forward,” said Osmani. In addition, regarding the silence of the Government on the French proposal, Osmani told Alsat TV that it was a state strategy so as not to contribute to any destabilization. However, he stressed, there’s been attempt at hybrid attacks. Ministers and political parties have received calls with fake information aimed at disrupting the strategy. Osmani noted that if it is proven all that was part of a more organized scheme to disrupt the state position, then it raises completely different issues, adding that this didn’t include journalists or analysts “who were forced to create their own narrative due to lack of information.”
