Amid latest wave of flu-like illness, only 13 confirmed COVID-19 cases through Jan. 15

Skopje, 20 January 2025 (MIA) — Amid the latest wave of respiratory infections across the country, only 13 positive test results were reported to the Public Health Institute between Jan. 1 and 15, 2025, by laboratories performing PCR and rapid antigen testing for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the highly contagious airborne illness COVID-19, nationwide.


According to the latest PHI press release issued Monday, between Jan. 13 and 19, the institute received only two reports of people testing positive for COVID-19: one from a lab in Kratovo and another in Skopje. 


This was a drop of four compared to the previous week's six officially reported COVID-19 cases, the release notes. 


It adds that a total of 282 people were tested for COVID-19 between Jan. 13 and 19, a rise in testing of 8.9 percent compared to the previous week. 


According to the PHI, there were no COVID-19-related deaths to report. mr/
