Osmani in Strasbourg: Multilateralism remains only effective response to challenges

Skopje, 16 May 2024 (MIA) – Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani spoke at the 133rd session of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg, highlighting the role of multilateralism in tackling the numerous ongoing challenges.

“Despite all its imperfections, multilateralism the only way to mobilize a collective response to wars, crises, emergencies and diverse challenges. The Council of Europe remains a vital pillar in this regard. Nevertheless, we, the member states, bear the responsibility for its effectiveness,” Osmani noted.

In his view, on its 75th anniversary, the Council of Europe, has contributed to enhancing the lives of citizens, preserving human rights, and fostering democracy and the rule of law through its norms and standards.

FM Osmani welcomed today’s adoption of the Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence, Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, as the first international instrument in this field.

“The close cooperation with other international organizations, especially the EU, UN, and OSCE, in addressing shared challenges is of particular importance,” Osmani underlined.

While in Strasbourg, Osmani is set to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other countries.
