Osmani: Dimitrov should deal with history, not politics
Skopje, 16 October 2022 (MIA) – Angel Dimitrov is not a politician, but a historian, and I recommend him to deal with history, not politics, Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani told reporters on Sunday, asked to comment on Dimitrov’s statement that the country wasn’t acting as EU candidate.
Minister Osmani stressed that one of the basic principles of the treaty with Bulgaria is that politics and history should be separated - politics to the politicians, and history to the historians. “Angel Dimitrov obviously shows certain political ambition, but, once again, let me say that he should concentrate on the next meeting of the history commission, to prepare, because there are others to talk about politics,” Osmani said after Sunday’s event at which he and the Kosovo Ambassador planted 13 trees to mark the 13th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Angel Dimitrov said on Sunday that currently, the Republic of North Macedonia is not acting as EU candidate. “The very reminder of the EU to the Republic of North Macedonia, albeit with one phrase: that they must respect the Friendship Treaty with Bulgaria, opens wide the door for our remarks and demands to the country,” Dimitrov has told the Brussel 1 show on Bulgaria On Air TV. Angel Dimitrov is the Bulgarian co-chair of the joint multidisciplinary expert commission on historical and educational issues.
