North Macedonia shelters another 14 Afghanistan nationals
Skopje, 26 November 2021 (MIA) — Fourteen United Nations employees and their family members, who are Afghanistan nationals threatened by the Taliban, arrived at Skopje International Airport earlier today. They will be temporarily sheltered in North Macedonia until they travel to their final destination, according to a government press release.
Continuing North Macedonia’s participation in the international rescue mission, the state provided the Afghanistan nationals upon their arrival with Red Cross aid and health care, including PCR tests and vaccines.
The costs for the group are being fully covered by the UN.
There are currently 568 citizens of Afghanistan sheltered in the country. So far, 85 Afghan nationals have left North Macedonia after being given permanent residence permits by France, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil and the United States. mr/
