New EU Ambassador Michalis Rokas arrives in Skopje
- The EU Delegation in Skopje announced Tuesday that the new Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, the Greek diplomat Michalis Rokas, has arrived in the country.
Skopje, 3 September 2024 (MIA) — The EU Delegation in Skopje announced Tuesday that the new Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of North Macedonia, the Greek diplomat Michalis Rokas, has arrived in the country.
"We are pleased to have welcomed today the EU Ambassador - Designate to North Macedonia, Michalis Rokas!," the EU Delegation said on X.
Rokas succeeds Ambassador David Geer.
In April, EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Josep Borrell officially nominated Rokas as the new EU Ambassador in North Macedonia.
Before his appointment, Rokas was the Head of the EU Delegation to Malaysia, where he served as EU Ambassador since December 2020.
He has thirty years' experience in the field of foreign affairs, having joined the European Commission External Relations Directorate General in 1994.
His prior postings include Chargé d’Affaires and Head of EU Delegation to New Zealand, First secretary of the European Commission's Office in Hong Kong and Macau, Head of the Support to Delegations Division at the European External Action Service and Deputy and Head of the China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Mongolia Division at the EEAS.
Ambassador Rokas was born in Athens, Greece, in September 1964. He holds a bachelor degree in Economics and a postgraduate degree in European Economics. He speaks Greek, English, French, and German. mr/
