Victory Over Fascism Day and Europe Day marked in Skopje

Skopje, 9 May 2025 (MIA) – On the occasion of Victory Over Fascism Day and Europe Day, a government delegation on Friday will lay wreaths on the WWII memorial at Skopje’s Partisans’ Cemetery.
The delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister for Political System, Ljupcho Dimovski, Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski, Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti, Justice Minister Igor Filkov and Minister of European Affairs Orhan Murtezani.
Deputy PM Dimovski and ministers Murtezani and Misajlovski will deliver addresses after the wreath-laying ceremony, the Defense Ministry said.
Delegations representing the President’s Office, Parliament, the army, the organization of WWII veterans and diplomats will also lay wreaths.
Friday marks Victory Over Fascism Day around the world. On May 9, 1945 with Nazi Germany signing an unconditional surrender, World War Two ended. 61 countries were involved with a total of 2.1 billion residents – 96% of world’s population. More than 50 million people were killed.
The Third Reich signed the unconditional surrender of its armed forces in Berlin a few minutes after midnight in May 9.
