Mucunski: Gov’t firmly focused on European reforms through rule of law, fight against corruption, economic development

Skopje, 30 June 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Timcho Mucunski participated in Dubrovnik Forum 2024 where he addressed the panel “Western Balkans: Unlocking the Reform Potential” on Saturday, touching upon the country’s perspective of EU membership, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

In his address, according to the Ministry, Mucunski said that despite witnessing the “bilateralization” of the Euro-integration process, as well as of NATO membership previously, and “the repeated application of double standards by the EU institutions”, the country has remained a pro-European nation, with the majority of its people supporting the European agenda, since “there is no better alternative for the country than full-fledged EU membership”.

In terms of the reforms and the country’s integration within the European Union, Mucunski stressed that the new Government is firmly focused on the process of European integration by providing European standards at home, i.e., fighting crime and corruption, the rule of law and economic development.

Asked about the concept of membership into the Single Market ahead of full EU integration, Mucunski, according to the press release, said that regardless of how the EU foresees the process, including the concept of gradual integration, there will be no dilemmas over it if the final result is full-fledged EU membership.
