Skopje, 29 May 2025 (MIA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski held a bilateral meeting with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Thursday. Talks focused on expanding trade, reducing tariffs, and initiating talks on a potential Trade Agreement.
The two reaffirmed excellent cooperation between the two countries, grounded in shared values, strategic alignment and genuine friendship, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.
"Minister Mucunski reiterated the Macedonian government's commitment to advancing political dialogue with the United States, as well as the concrete commitment to institutionalizing the strategic partnership through implementing a joint Action Plan," reads the press release.
In addition, Mucunski highlighted the openness of the Macedonian government towards advancing economic cooperation, showcasing the many investment opportunities the country can offer to U.S. partners.
Interlocutors also exchanged views on security cooperation within NATO, where the country continues to make an active contribution as a credible ally, with investments of over two percent of GDP in the defence sector. Particular attention was paid to regional stability and the development of the Western Balkans.

Minister Mucunski extended gratitude for the U.S. steadfast support, expressing assurance that the strategic partnership will continue to develop with even greater dynamics and concrete results, at the bilateral, regional and global levels.
"Wrapping up our visit to the United States with a significant meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, whereat we reaffirmed the strong strategic partnership between our nations, shared commitment to regional stability, our European integration, as well as investments in security and defence as NATO allies. From Secretary Rubio and on behalf of the U.S. administration, we received a strong assurance that our partnership and alliance remain crucial, seeing our country as a significant factor in regional stability. Among other things, we discussed the next steps within the Strategic Dialogue and mutual cooperation," said Minister Mucunski.
In the spirit of strengthened partnership, he added, support from the United States continues with increased intensity, especially in reform processes, strengthening democracy, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.
"At a time of complex security challenges facing the world, we concluded it is crucial to continue working to maintain peace, stability and prosperity globally," Minister Mucunski pointed out after the meeting.
