MPs gather to discuss improving parliamentary ethics

Skopje, 7 April 2023 (MIA) — Parliamentary Committee on Rules of Procedure and Mandatory and Immunity Issues members, Members of Parliament, administrative staff and experts in the field gathered Friday at the Parliamentary Institute to discuss improving parliamentary ethics, according to an official press release.

The Parliamentary Committee on Rules of Procedure and Mandatory and Immunity Issues adopted last month a training curriculum for a one-day Code of Ethics workshop on improving parliamentary ethics, as required by the GRECO Fourth Evaluation Round Addendum to the Second Compliance Report on North Macedonia, which deals with corruption prevention in respect of members of parliament, judges and prosecutors.

Based on the proposed curriculum, MPs were to learn practical skills focused on the prevention of corruption; conflict of interest; accountability and transparency; and use of public assets and funds. They were also to learn how integrity is built and how important it is for holders of public offices to establish and maintain standards of behavior.

The Code of Ethics workshop for MPs was designed by the Center for Change Management as part of its Swiss-supported Parliament Support Program.

At Friday's event, also supported by the National Democratic Institute, the Center for Change Management presented findings of a public perception survey on MP's ethical behavior. mr/
