Ministry of Environment marks European Mobility Week
Skopje, 16 September 2021 (MIA) — The City of Skopje on Thursday signed a charter to take part in 2021 European Mobility Week, starting a series of events dedicated to sustainable transport the country will hold until Sept. 22, World Car Free Day, according to the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning in a press release.
Under the motto "Safe and Healthy through Sustainable Mobility," the Ministry of Environment is coordinating events across the country to mark 2021 European Mobility Week and inviting civil society representatives and socially responsible enterprises to share their best practices of urban mobility, the release says.
Citizens and companies are also encouraged to take steps toward achieving the European Mobility Week long-term goal: a carbon neutral continent.
Despite the pandemic, the release adds, cities including Skopje, Veles, Bitola, and Strumica will be promoting permanent measures to facilitate alternative modes of transportation.
The Ministry of Environment is also urging other cities to join in by registering and promoting their own projects related to sustainable transport and alternative mobility as well as celebrating Sept. 22, World Car Free Day, in line with public health protection guidelines.
According to the release, 2,936 cities from 53 countries around the world took part in last year’s European Mobility Week. mr/
