Mickoski: VMRO-DPMNE won't support constitutional changes regardless of referendum outcome
Skopje, 12 September 2022 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE regardless of the referendum's outcome, even if it doesn't succeed, will not support amendments to the Constitution under these circumstances, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said Monday noting he believed the referendum would be successful. "The only way for us to see whether there will be turnout is to hold this referendum, to support the initiative and to see whether the citizens will be 'in favor' or 'against'. I encourage them in the European democratic spirit, in which they swear by while they steal, to mobilize the few to cast their vote in accordance with their policies. I'm confident the referendum will be successful. However, regardless of the outcome, VMRO-DPMNE will not support changes to the Constitution under these circumstances," Mickoski stated after a meeting with the Economic Chamber President Branko Azeski. According to him, the government is scared from mobilization of the people and consolidation of antigovernmental sentiment, which he claimed is existing. This past Friday, the VMRO-DPMNE parliamentary group submitted to Parliament an initiative on launching a procedure for establishing the validity of the initiative for collecting citizens’ signatures for calling a referendum, announced by VMRO-DPMNE. Its coordinator Nikola Micevski said that over 650 signatures for a referendum were collected in about half an hour. Also last week, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski submitted an initiative for a Referendum to the State Election Commission (SEC). The proposed referendum question is: “Are you in favor of abandoning the validity of the Law on Ratification of the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation between the Republic of Macedonia and the Republic of Bulgaria, published in the Official Gazette No: 12 /2018 on January 18, 2018?”.
