Mickoski: Our power is unity, stability through stronger ties with neighbors and EU
- Our power lies in unity and stability through strengthening relations with our neighbors and the European Union by opening new markets, creating new jobs, building new friendships, removing trade barriers, improving infrastructure and boosting investments, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday at the opening of the Western Balkans Leaders Meeting on the Growth Plan, which aims to evaluate the region's progress so far and decide the next steps on the region's EU integration path.

Skopje, 1 July 2025 (MIA) -- Our power lies in unity and stability through strengthening relations with our neighbors and the European Union by opening new markets, creating new jobs, building new friendships, removing trade barriers, improving infrastructure and boosting investments, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday at the opening of the Western Balkans Leaders Meeting on the Growth Plan, which aims to evaluate the region's progress so far and decide the next steps on the region's EU integration path.
"We are the frontrunners on the reform path," Mickoski said in is opening remarks, adding that this meant "better governance, cleaner energy, a more fair justice and strong businesses."
"We are proof that change is possible when we work together resolutely and with a vision," he said.
He also said that as a result of the state's commitment to the rule of law and modernizing the economy, "Macedonia is the first Western Balkan country that completed the Growth Plan prefinancing agreement."
"This European path belongs to all citizens, all businesses, all communities. We all need to be part of this transformation," he said.
"The credibility of the EU's plan is based on fulfilling promises and delivering benefits.
"Citizens need to feel the benefits of integration now, in their businesses, in the institutions, in everyday life.
"We all have a future together. To secure our unity and stability, we need to work together as neighbors, as partners, as a region.
"Together we can build a strong and connected region, which is prosperous, inclusive and European," the prime minister said.
He highlighted that the Westen Balkans were "vital for the European present and essential for its future."
He said the region was "rich in potential and ambition," which was often obscured by "narratives of divisions and delays."
"But looking around this room, I see different stories, a region defined by a spirit refusing to be held back," Mickoski said.
"This summit is dedicated to our shared vision. A vision of investments increasing, innovations blooming, and integration creating opportunities accessible to all. A vision in which the Western Balkans are no longer a waiting room but a region that is moving, growing and evolving."
He said the Macedonian government was guided by this vision in implementing reforms and promoting regional cooperation. He said some of the achievements of the government were accelerating cross-border movement and joining the SEPA payment system.
"We are committed to aligning with the EU's standards, from product safety to digital identity. These efforts highlight our dedication to deeper integration and provide the highest standards to our citizens and partners," Mickoski said.
Attendees of the summit hosted by the prime minister include European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Western Balkans leaders as well as top EU officials, government ministers and representatives of regional organizations and international institutions. mr/
