Mickoski: EU should be clear as country made many concessions

Skopje, 27 March 2024 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said in an interview with the national broadcaster that the European Union should be clear towards the country and say what needs to be done, as great concessions have been made.

"I think that the EU should clearly say what it wants from Macedonia and the people. Macedonia has done a lot for the European values, we have changed many things. Many concessions were made in believing the words of European politicians. But the fact is that they did not fulfill their promise, while everything was done here, the Macedonian politicians accepted everything," the VMRO-DPMNE leader said.

According to Mickoski, such unprincipled relation should stop. "This is exactly why we say we are ready to sit down for talks and discuss what the people can expect, what can be done," Mickoski said.

He told the national broadcaster that the party will not accept "a dictate like the one from Bulgaria now". "We have not started negotiations for more than two and a half decades after having taken the path," said Mickoski.

The VMRO-DPMNE leader also spoke about the party's Platform #1198 for the upcoming elections, which he noted was the basis of the future country governance that will bring about hope and change.

He explained parts of the platform, pointing out that the past seven years should never be repeated. He mentioned the proposal to change the number of MPs from 120 to 90, and the changes that the party proposes regarding the number of institutions and ministries, as well as about cancelling the principle of fair representation in institutions, i.e. the balancer instrument.

According to him, the balancer instrument is more of a burden now and causes frustration for people. It is necessary to create a society in which progress will be made according to a merit system and the quality of the individual.

Mickoski said he does not see what would be the counterargument of a future partner in the Government of VMRO-DPMNE if such partner was against cancelling the balancer instrument.
