Mickoski: Alcazar Energy wind farm - biggest regional RES investment

Skopje, 25 June 2024 (MIA) - A wind farm consisted of 55 wind turbines producing 1 terawatt of electricity will be constructed in the area of Karbinci, Shtip and Radovish municipalities. Construction works are expected to begin in the second half of 2025, whereas the investment worth over US$ 500 million is set to open 630 jobs.

The wind farm will produce electricity that will meet the needs of about 100,000 households, heard the investment's promotional event on Tuesday.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said this is the largest investment in the sector of renewable energy sources (RES) in the region.

"This investment, promoted at the very start of the Government's term in office, demonstrates our focus on projects in the citizens' interest. About 100,000 Macedonian families will get electricity from this wind farm. This project is important because it will significantly strengthen the country's energy independence, increase the volume of investments and open the path for new investments," said Mickoski.

He added that the Government aims to make the country energy-independent in the sector of electricity.

"We have the plan in place, we have the people, we only have to do our homework. They say every man dreams of big things but only few make them a reality. I am one of those who want to see deeds in action not only words. This is how I operate and this is how this Government will operate," noted Mickoski.

Minister of Energy, Mining and Minerals Sanja Bozhinovska also announced a programme of grants and favorable loans for 150,000 households.

"The support will relate to new energy-efficient exterior walls, windows and doors, as well as subsidies of up to 50 percent of the purchasing price and installation of energy-efficient equipment. Households will also have the option of selling the excess electricity they produce at better rates through amendments in the existing regulations," said Bozhinovska.

Alcazar Energy is a Luxembourg domiciled sustainable infrastructure fund focused on utility scale renewable energy projects in emerging markets, with an advisory team based in the United Arab Emirates.
