Bled, 28 August 2023 (MIA) - In his address at the Bled Strategic Forum on Monday, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the European Union must be ready for a new enlargement by 2030.

This, according to Michel, should be one of the main goals of the Union. The next enlargement, he said, should be included in the European Commission’s new budget.

The European Council’s President proposed the introduction of a “confidence clause” for the new members, preventing them from vetoing future members.

The aspiring members, according to Michel, must respect the rule of law, fight crime and corruption and implement reforms.
