MIA’s reporter wins award at international festival in Croatia
Belgrade, 3 October 2021 (MIA) – The Media Information Agency (MIA) won the top prize for best report at the Fra Ma Fu international festival of reporters in Daruvar, Croatia. The jury of the 7th festival of reporters in Croatia picked the winning report out of 30 articles submitted by journalists from the region, MIA's Belgrade correspondent reports. MIA’s reporter Angela Rajchevska won the award for her series of articles disclosing a case in which one flat in a residential building in Skopje had been sold to multiple people. Her story prompted the relevant institutions to act, which prevented some dozen citizens from being involved in fraud by launching an investigation against a real estate agent. It has resulted in the real estate agent being charged with fraud. The first hearing was scheduled to take place on July 1, 2021, but it was postponed after the defendant was a no-show. The hearing was rescheduled on September 1. Then, he promised the court he would refund the damaged parties. However, he once again was a no-show at the next scheduled hearing after which he was ordered to be placed in detention by the court as precautionary measure. President of the Croatian Journalists’ Association (HNK), Hrvoje Zovko, handed over the award to MIA’s director and chief editor Dragan Antonovski. Antonovski said Angela Rajcheska is one of the young forces of Macedonian journalism. “Angela was unable to attend due to other commitments. She is one of the young forces of Macedonian journalism – hardworking, determined and analytic. She is part of the team focused on reforming the Macedonian news agency,” Antonovski stated receiving the award. Previous recipients include reporters from Croatia, Serbia and BiH.
