Skopje, 1 August 2023 (MIA) - Employees of the Media Information Agency (MIA) staged Tuesday a fourth half-an-hour warning protest in front of the agency's premises, reiterating their demands, the most urgent one being a 30 percent wage increase.
According to the employees, the average wage in MIA is nowhere near the average wage in the country, which currently stands at Mden 36,465.
The Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM) pointed out that demands of MIA staff are legitimate and give their full support.
"Given that the Government is to hold a session today, as well as the promise that this demand can be resolved with a positive outcome, we think it is an ideal time to close this issue," SSNM said.
SSNM notes that MIA is producing news articles in Macedonian, Albanian and English languages, boasts the largest correspondent network and reports on all events in the country, as well as developments in the world. The agency cooperates with both regional and global media outlets, hence its role is of major importance for the whole country and especially for the media scene.
