MIA and FENA join forces in countering fake news

Sarajevo, 26 May 2023 (MIA) - Media Information Agency (MIA) Director-General Dragan Antonovski and Bosnia and Herzegovina's Federal News Agency (FENA) Director Elmir Huremović met Friday in Sarajevo, discussing the enhancement of the long-standing cooperation between the two news agencies and the joint fight against fake news.

FENA and MIA cooperate through regional associations of news agencies and play a big role in providing true and quality news.

"Besides the important role they are playing in the respective societies, our agencies share similar problems and challenges. We agreed it is very important to strengthen cooperation since we are identifying many areas and potential projects of joint interest. Our cooperation and media activity is required in helping Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia on their European path," said Huremović.

Antonovski said the meeting represented a continuation of the long-standing cooperation between the two agencies.

"We have been exchanging news and information for a long time. This is especially important in a time when fake news is on the rise. This helps us check and have a shared agency approach in informing our citizens. We discussed the opportunities for cooperation on joint projects and enrichment of our offer," said Antonovski.

Interlocutors also referred to the agencies' multimedia content and exchange of video materials.

"We discussed a joint regional project involving FENA, MIA and other agencies in the area, the creation of a Balkan newsroom and a joint network of correspondents, from Brussels and Washington for example, in order to bring news closer to the public," added Antonovski.
