Menada choir to give concert in Istanbul

Skopje, 10 October 2024 (MIA) -- The Tetovo women's choir Menada will give a concert of spiritual music and Macedonian folk songs at the Armenian catholic cathedral Surp Asdvadzadzin in Istanbul at 7 pm.
According to organizers, the Menada concert is part of the annual program of the Macedonian Cultural Center in Istanbul in cooperation with the Istanbul Philharmonic Society.
The choir, "by fusing holy and traditional elements, will reflect the rich cultural and music treasures of Macedonia," the Macedonian Cultural Center in Istanbul said in a press release.
"The aim of the concert is to promote the strong cultural ties between Macedonia and Türkiye," the release said.
Menada was founded in 1981 in Tetovo by Ivica Zorikj, who still conducts the women's choir.
The choir performs choral compositions from various eras of Macedonian and world choral a cappella and vocal-instrumental music.
"With more than 500 works spanning from renaissance through contemporary compositions as well as Macedonian folk, spiritual and evergreen music performances, Menada has grown into a symbol of Macedonia's rich choral tradition," the Macedonian Cultural Center in Istanbul said.
The choir has won numerous international awards and performed at festivals worldwide. mr/
