Macedonian singer Vlado Janevski passes away at 65

Skopje, 29 June 2026 (MIA) - Macedonian renowned singer and songwriter Vlado Janevski passed away late on Sunday at the age of 65.

In the early days of his career, Janevski was a member of several bands, such as Tost Sendvich, Bon Ton, Fotomodel and Lastovica, followed by a hugely successful solo career.

Janevski was born on 27 November 1960 in Skopje. He majored in English language and literature at the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje and was fluent in English, German, Italian and Russian. He played the guitar, piano, and drums.

He was often referred to as "the most romantic songwriter and lyricist in the history of Macedonian popular music" but he described himself as "a mere scribbler of love songs." The secret of his long-lasting success was probably due to the mystic beauty of his ballads combined with the sensuality of his velvety baritone voice.
