Skopje, 26 June 2026 (MIA) – A musical performance with an ensemble of over 120 Macedonian artists will be staged to mark the 35th anniversary of the independence of Macedonia. The open-air performance will take place in 15 cities across the country, organizers said Friday adding that all the moments that had made us proud and united in the past 35 years will be showcased through artistic lens.

The musical performance on stage won’t aim to present events through chronological order, said the director Dejan Projkovski. “We’ll create a musical journey through 35 years presenting two angles to view the independence. One angle is the generation that witnessed all that, and the other is the young generation that is inheriting the independence. We’ll try and bridge the generations in an artistic way,” he told a news conference Friday. 

He announced it as one of the greatest open-air stage spectacles in the country. 

“We’ll try to recreate images that are part of our collective memory. We’ll mix all art forms, namely painting, film, poetry, literature,” said Projkovski adding the concert will be emceed by actor and musician Igor Dzambazov. 

It will be a birthday celebration of all those who feel as loyal citizens of this country, stated Dzambazov.

Government spokeswoman Marija Miteva, speaking at the news conference, said that international stars are important but Macedonian artists are of utmost importance.

“Macedonian artists, Macedonian culture are those carrying the sprit of a nation. I, personally, and the government are proud of being part of the organization of such a project uniting over 120 Macedonian artists in what I consider to be the most important project marking the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Macedonia’s independence,” said Miteva. 

She thanked all the artists who will be part of the project announced today. The government will reveal soon other projects that are part of the independence celebration, the spokeswoman said. 

So far, the concerts by opera singer Jose Carreras and Macedonia All Stars and by French DJ David Guetta have been announced.

According to Boban Miloshevski of Avalon Production, one of the organizers, the project announced today is important because it “refers to the identity part of the celebration of the 35th anniversary of Macedonia’s independence.”
