Kovachevski: Using European funds for a competitive economy
Vienna, 21 April 2023 (MIA) - North Macedonia aligns with the values of the European family, with EU policies, security aspects, and economic development, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski told Friday's lecture at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

According to the PM, the government manages the European funds with clear strategies. In that regard, he mentioned that the SDSM-led government has concluded in the 2017-2022 period 2,363 agreements with financial support from the European Union, partly with national co-financing.

"We are the only government so far that plans funds and fully uses the money from the IPARD program," the PM said.

Following the EU's policies, he noted, the government adopted a new Energy Development Strategy for North Macedonia until 2040 which is completely based on the European Green Deal, and is already being implemented in the country.
"Energy transition and energy independence is our priority. In times of crisis, we managed to contribute to increasing the interest in investments in renewable energy sources. In just over a year, until March 31, 2023 - over 191 MW of total capacity from renewable sources have been installed," said Kovachevski.

The PM said that North Macedonia leads the region in terms of the energy sector. He reiterated that energy transition and energy independence is the government's priority.

"Since North Macedonia is a regional leader in energy transition, it has a huge potential to become a green energy hub," Kovachevski said.
