Kovachevski: North Macedonia should only be evaluated according to results, no more obstacles and political demands

Vienna, 21 April 2023 (MIA) - We will do our best to implement all reforms and take all steps for the country's European future, but we need strong support in the European Union, as well as in the European institutions and in the European Parliament, in order not to allow new circumstances in the form of new political demands, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski during Friday's lecture in Vienna as part of his two-day visit to Austria.

He pointed out that the only factors according to which North Macedonia should be evaluated are results achieved and procedures completed for the screening process and standards.

"I made a commitment to my citizens, to the Macedonian Parliament and to the entire European Union that we will do our homework. We firmly believe in European future for North Macedonia and are fully committed to achieving this strategic goal. However, that homework must be properly verified and confirmed by the European Union," said Kovachevski.

He stressed that the end of the long road should be certain based only on what has been achieved. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Many Macedonian generations have grown up waiting for the date when they become part of the European Union, with the hope that they will live in their own country with European values," PM Kovachevski pointed out, adding that it is time for results, and no more obstacles, political demands or new conditions.

During the lecture, the PM conveyed a message to fellow social democrats and socialists within the network of European socialists, with whom, he noted, "we share the same values".
"Once again I'd like to ask you to continue supporting my country on the path to EU. In the Macedonian Parliament, we need a voice from Europe. We will do our best to implement all reforms and take all steps for the country's European future," said Kovachevski in Vienna.
