Mickoski expects MEPs to ‘unanimously’ adopt resolution on uniqueness of Macedonian language and identity

Skopje, 28 May 2025 (MIA) - For the first time, the MEPs will be presented with a report which makes several mentions of the centuries-old, unique Macedonian identity and language. Since it has been frequently repeated that this is not an issue or an obstacle for anyone, I expect the MEPs to unanimously adopt this report affirming the unique, centuries-old Macedonian identity and the unique Macedonian language, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told journalists Wednesday.
“I urge all political entities in the country to unite and start calling their sister parties which have members in the European Parliament. I know that opposition party SDSM is a part of one such family, and I urge them to start calling their sister parties from today. The same applies to LDP (the Liberal Democratic Party). We, as a political party, will convene our executive committee today and draft a strategy for VMRO-DPMNE to send people in Brussels to continue talks with the MEPs about the need to adopt this resolution, which recognizes the unique, centuries-old Macedonian identity and the unique, internationally recognized and verified Macedonian language,” Mickoski said.
The PM stressed that anyone denying the uniqueness of the Macedonian language is anti-NATO and anti-EU.
“I want to stress that the unique Macedonian language is a fact, and anyone who denies this and refuses to accept reality is anti-NATO and anti-EU. So, any member state or any MEP who doesn’t back this resolution is anti-EU above all and opposed to the European values defined by Adenauer, Schuman and De Gasperi a long time ago,” Mickoski underlined.
The European Parliament is set to discuss the report on June 4 while the vote is expected to be held in July.
