Kambovski and Limani sworn in as new Judicial Council members

Skopje, 19 June 2024 (MIA) - No one should interfere in the judiciary, said new Judicial Council members Isamedin Limani and Aleksandar Kambovski after they were sworn in before Parliament Speaker Afrim Gashi on Wednesday.

"I have always believed in independence, transparency, accountability, responsibility and fight against corruption. I hope these beliefs will be treated in the Council," Kambovski told reporters.

When asked on the possible dissolution of the Judicial Council, Kambovski said proposals "that I am not aware of for the time being" are yet to be discussed.

"It is always good if the judiciary is independent. As other branches of power, the judiciary should be independent and decide on its own," added Kambovski.

Limani referred to the legislative and constitutional provisions related to the Council's independence.

"As per the Constitution and laws, the Judicial Council is an independent authority that ensures independence in the judicial field. The Council should provide conditions for this independence to be more transparent, so that courts can be more efficient," said Limani.

According to him, the Parliament is the legislator that is able to change the Constitution and adopt other reforms.

Supreme Court judge Isamedin Limani and Bitola Appellate Court judge Aleksandar Kambovski were elected Judicial Council members on June 6.

According to the Law on the Judicial Council, members from the order of judges have a six-year term, with the right to re-election.
