Japan to fund Zletovo preschool’s removal of asbestos roof
Probishtip, 17 November 2022 (MIA) — Through its Grant Assistance for Grass Roots and Human Security Projects (GGP), the Japanese government will cover a Zletovo preschool center’s costs for removing its asbestos roof and replacing it with a safe new roof, according to MIA’s Shtip correspondent.
Japanese Ambassador Hironori Sawada signed the grant agreement with Probishtip Mayor Dragan Anastasov. The EUR 77,975 grant will be used to replace the asbestos roofing of Izvorche Preschool in Zletovo near Probishtip.
“Replacing the roof is necessary both from a technical and environmental point of view, but most importantly, to protect the health of children and employees,” Mayor Anastasov said.
Ambassador Sawada said the new roof would protect the health of more than 90 children.
Through its GGP program, Japan has financed the renovations of more than 73 schools and preschools as well as 64 health facilities in the country. It has also provided 34 solid waste collection vehicles to 51 municipalities.
Japan’s ongoing support for North Macedonia includes funding infrastructural development projects, health services, education, environment, and culture; providing assistance during natural disasters and refugee crises; and emergency aid amounting to more than EUR 423 million as well as other non-financial help. mr/
