Skopje, 6 February 2024 (MIA) - Health Minister Fatmir Mexhiti, one of the three government ministers from the order of the Alliance for Albanians (AA), voiced Tuesday his support for party leader Arben Taravari, who has said that AA would join the opposition parties of ethnic Albanians at the coming elections.

Minister Mexhiti was quizzed by supporters if he would notify caretaker PM Talat Xhaferi over his participation in the government, to which he said "I am not accountable to anyone but my party and its leader Taravari".

He congratulated Xhaferi on the PM's post while reiterating his support for Taravari and reaffirming his commitment as a doctor and minister.

"I am one with Taravari in body and spirit. We are friends, roommates, professionals, neurologists, working together all our lives. I will always stand beside him and support his policies," said Mexhiti.

He added that AA supported the government "at the recommendation of our international friends" and said they would be part of the government until the elections.

Minister Mexhiti does not know how long he will remain in the post but will be committed until the end.

"I want to be a professional, a doctor, a neurologist, but also a human until the very end. I am not a fan of politics or parties and believe it is high time that politics and political parties take their hands off health and education," said Mexhiti.
