Grkovska: Judiciary system is the weak link in fight against corruption

Skopje, 20 March 2023 (MIA) – The judiciary is the weak link in the fight against corruption. The citizens and I expect something to be done, says Deputy PM for Good Governance Policies Slavica Grkovska.

In response to a journalist’s question about her comments on Josep Borell and Oliver Varhelyi’s comments that the country should focus on corruption management to progress in European integration, she underlines that the creation of good governance policies is her jurisdiction, which entails detecting weaknesses in the system and overcoming them, as well as coordinating with other anti-corruption institutions in terms of increasing their capacities and all that is needed to strengthen their activities to fight corruption and organized crime.

“Each institution has its role to play, which I’ve said numerous times. We should all do our jobs professionally. I hope that our messages, both from the citizens of our country and the international factor, will finally cause drastic changes in the way the judiciary deals with corruption and organized crime. The citizens want to see justice. The judiciary plays the biggest role in this sense, and I expect serious steps forward in this aspect,” she said.

Grkovska participated at the international scientific symposium dedicated to higher education and digital technology at the American University of Europe – FON.

In regards to the conflict of interests concerning the company owned by the brother of Deputy PM Artan Grubi, which received Government funding, she expects the DKSK to investigate.

Regarding the case with the Youth and Sport Agency and the State Audit Office’s findings, Grkovska said that these findings were reviewed at the Human Resources Commission and that a procedure is underway.

“I tasked the Agency to give a detailed report to the Government within 2 weeks about all SAO findings, which was done, but given the fact that the Agency was missing serious arguments, we gave them time and we formed a working group with members of my Cabinet, the SAO and the Agency so that it’s clear what they need to deliver to the SAO, and based on that, we will raise the issue to the Government officially,” Deputy PM Grkovska said. dk/sk/
