Skopje, 5 October 2024 (MIA) - Bulgaria wants to use the Macedonia topic in their election campaign. We will not go into these traps. There is a goal we aspire to. The offer coming from the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been made on behalf of the EU Presidency. We are now waiting on a signal from Bulgaria. Our signal is clear - we want a dignified solution and we do not accept ultimatums, said Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski on Saturday.
PM Mickoski was quizzed about the reaction coming from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which said that the process of European integration is based on the countries' own merits and rules out mediation between the EU and a candidate country.
"Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Government, the Bulgarian President and the Bulgarian politicians want to bring the Macedonia topic into their election campaign. I have said on many occasions that we will not be naive and enter these traps. We have our own interest and our goals. When it comes to the discussions with our eastern neighbor, we are prepared to take part whenever they want and based on any platform or plan, to sit down and find a solution while observing international standards," said Mickoski.
Regarding Orban's offer for mediation, the PM said it was given on behalf of the EU Presidency.
"Hungarian PM Orban's offer is made on behalf of the EU Presidency. We should now see what signals is Bulgaria going to send. Our signal is clear - we want a dignified solution and we will not accept blackmail and ultimatums," said Mickoski.
