Grkovska calls for law to ban from holding public office individuals blacklisted by US, EU and UN
- Deputy PM for good governance policies, Slavica Grkovska, said she has launched an initiative in the Government for legal amendments to ban individuals added to the sanctions list of the United States, the European Union and the United Nations, from holding any public office or be employed in the administration.
Skopje, 23 November 2023 (MIA) - Deputy PM for good governance policies, Slavica Grkovska, said she has launched an initiative in the Government for legal amendments to ban individuals added to the sanctions list of the United States, the European Union and the United Nations, from holding any public office or be employed in the administration.
Grkovska told Sitel TV on Thursday that amendments are necessary according to which if officials, who are currently holding office, are imposed such a sanction, their mandate will be terminated immediately.
"Because behaving as if nothing had happened, after such sanctions are imposed, erodes trust in institutions and does not contribute to building a system in which citizens can have confidence. Also, we will reduce corruption drastically the moment we show that the system works impartially and there are penalties and sanctions for all those who have violated ethical and moral norms," said Grkovska.
In that direction, in parallel with tightening the criteria for holders of office, a proposal for amendments to the Law on Restrictive Measures has been prepared, which, in addition to the legally binding resolutions of the UN Security Council and the legal acts of the EU, will also include the measures of the United States, as a basis for legal restrictive measures.
