Grkovska, Aliu: Donor support key for effective digital transformation and better quality of life

Skopje, 25 October 2023 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister in charge of Good Governance Policies, Slavica Grkovska and Minister of Information Society and Administration Azir Aliu organized Wednesday a conference for digital transformation donors, to discuss priorities and challenges on the road to digitalization of society and economy. The conference follows last years' donor community meeting, where an agreement was reached on the need to coordinate projects to avoid their overlap and increase efficiency, said the Government's press service.

Deputy PM Grkovska expressed gratitude for the submitted lists with donor projects, which collectively shape the digital landscape in North Macedonia.

"Donors' contribution is greatly appreciated, and their support is key for digital transformation of society," Grkovska said, emphasizing that efforts for digitalizing public services is aimed at efficiently meeting citizens' needs and expectations, and being in accordance with good governance principles.

Minister Aliu expressed his conviction that digital transformation is a great opportunity for North Macedonia to increase competition, introduce innovation and improve the quality of life.

"This conference comes at an important moment, when all countries face great challenges and opportunities to develop and transform societies through technology and innovation. While the world is experiencing profound technological changes, it is our duty to use these opportunities and improve citizens' quality of life," Aliu said.

The ministry also presented current activities and future plans aimed at achieving the main goal for the complete digitalization of public administration, and shared information about donor coordination efforts established by the Secretariat for European Affairs.

Representatives from of the Delegation of the European Union, embassies of the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Slovenia, Greece and Romania, and representatives from UNDP, USAID and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) also attended the conference. ssh/ik/
