Grkovka--Nephew: Responsible, accountable and transparent work are key mechanisms for efficient management of corruption
Skopje, 2 February 2023 (MIA) - Deputy PM for good governance policies Slavica Grkovska met Thursday with Richard Nephew, United States Coordinator on Global Anti-Corruption, discussing the importance of the fight against corruption as a key element for progress and development of every society.

Deputy PM Grkovska said countering corruption is a priority of the Government and this requires active involvement of all stakeholders, ensuring a full societal and political consensus, her Office said in a press release.

Coordinator Nephew said it is necessary that changes are visible, so that citizens perceive the rule of law and equality before the law. He welcomed the planned activities and processes of the Office for good governance policies in the coming period, while reaffirming U.S. support to North Macedonia on the path to realizing its strategic objectives.

Interlocutors agreed that corruption is not a problem of only one country or region but a global challenge, whereas joint efforts and support can make the fight against corruption a success and yield results.

Grkovska said citizens are already super-sensitive to corruption and any type of abuse of office, noting that activities must be based on transparency, accountability, rule of law, efficiency and effectiveness.

The Deputy PM added she was aware that corruption cannot be overcome entirely but highlighted the necessity to show visible and concrete results, create conditions for the rule of law and equality of all citizens before the law and institutions.

"We all have the task to strengthen the citizens' trust in institutions," underlined Grkovska.
