Gov't to pass decision covering travel and accommodation costs of family members of Kochani fire victims treated abroad

Skopje, 18 March 2025 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Tuesday the government later in the day will hold a session to pass a decision on covering the costs of two members of the families of patients flown abroad for treatment.

Under the decision, travel and accommodation costs will be covered, added Mickoski.

The prime minister urged all those who were near the deadly incident, after a fire broke in a nightclub in Kochani in the early hours of Sunday, killing 59 people and injuring 155, to call their GPs to schedule an appointment even if they don’t feel the need to be examined.

“The government is doing the best it can to save lives. Most patients, over 70-80, have been transported abroad. Today, the foreign minister and the health minister are in Thessaloniki before going to Sofia to visit the patients treated there,” Mickoski told reporters after visiting the September 8 General Hospital in Skopje.

Earlier, Health Insurance Fund Director, Sasho Klekovski, who accompanied Mickoski to visit Kochani fire victims treated in September 8 General Hospital, said that starting today, patients will be flown to Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium, because capacities in the neighbouring countries have been already exhausted.
