Government approves draft-law on declaring Studenchishko Blato a protected area
Skopje, 27 September 2022 (MIA) – The Government reviewed and approved Tuesday the draft-law declaring Studenchishko Blato (Studenchistha Marsh) in Ohrid a protected area – nature park, which will be forwarded for Parliament adoption. The law adoption will ensure the maintenance of the natural state of site Studenchishko Blato through the protection of the natural and other values, prevention of actions that could directly or indirectly disrupt habitats and eco-systems, creation of better conditions for protection, preservation and promotion of the biodiversity, along with sustainable use of natural resources in a way that supports the survival of habitats and species, the Government said in a press release. Studenchishko Blato is the last glacial relic of marsh vegetation in the country, an area that developed at the time of the Pleistocene. It is currently endangered due to a landfill, severed communication with Lake Ohrid, burning and destruction of the marsh vegetation and formation of arable areas.
